Unpack This: Patagonia Dirt Craft & Dirt Roamer MTB Shorts

Patagonia has always made some of the best outdoor gear, and we love wearing them because they look good and they do good things for the planet. Now, Patagonia has its own line of high-performance mountain bike apparel, and we couldn’t wait to check it out.

I love wearing Patagonia products because they do good things for the planet. Patagonia uses recycled fabrics and PFC-free waterproof coatings, its garments are Fair Trade Certified, and it started 1% for the Planet, which provides support to environmental nonprofits working to defend our air, land, and water. It helps that Patagonia gear looks good and performs well too.

Now that Patagonia has its own line of high-performance mountain bike apparel, I couldn’t wait to check it out. I had our Apparel Category Manager, Seth, walk me through Patagonia’s Dirt Craft and Dirt Roamer MTB shorts, plus a couple more goodies.

Patagonia Dirt Craft Shorts

The Dirt Crafts is Patagonia’s tough do-it-all trail short. They’re stretchy and breathable, so you can easily take on tough climbs in the heat, but also burly enough for some Enduro-style riding on the way down and the occasional trip to the bike park. The Dirt Craft short comes equipped with a removable padded liner and an adjustable waistband.

The Dirt Roamer is a slightly lighter trail short that will keep you cool and comfortable on long days in the saddle. Unlike the Dirt Craft, the Dirt Roamer’s liner is sold separately, reducing the cost.

A neat feature is the pass-through side pocket. It functions as a regular side pocket for your phone, keys, and other goodies, but a pass-through opening allows you to access the cargo pockets integrated into the Dirt Roamer liner, or any other standard cargo bib.

Patagonia Dirt Craft Pants

If you want more coverage, then check out the Dirt Craft pants. You get extra protection from the sun and crashes, but the fabric is astoundingly thin, light, and breathable so you can happily wear these on tough climbs and hot days. They integrate with any Patagonia liner and also come with a pass-through pocket to access any cargo liner/bib pockets.

Patagonia Dirt Craft Jerseys

The long-sleeved Dirt Craft jersey is a do-it-all trail jersey with just enough warmth for chilly mornings and enough ventilation for when the temperature rises. It’s constructed with lightweight, quick-wicking double-knit fabric. The back panel is super soft (nice for wearing packs) and matches the knit cuffs that grip your forearms so they stay in place.
